Nia is an exhilarating movement practice that fuses dance, martial arts and healing arts. Some call it the exciting, aerobic "cousin of yoga" due to Niaʻs combination of somatic awareness and fitness.

Nia classes are a tantalizing blend of form, combined with the freedom of conscious dance. Do you repeat the same old moves when you dance? With Nia your body develops liberation, new fitness circuitry, energy and physical balance, along with emotional release and a mental reset into clarity and Joy.

Dancing between the physical world and the world of energy, Nia is more than just a workout. Nia touches each aspect of your life - body, mind, soul - using a wide variety of music to inspire you. Nia tones your body while transforming the cellular memory of emotional and mental blocks that have become a part of you.

A fun, creative path to well-being, Nia's world-wide classes are taught simultaneously at 3 levels of intensity, so that individuals can weave in and out of their own level in each move, choosing pleasure over pain, and listening to sensation as the way to connect with their personal fitness, mindfulness, and inner self.

When I (Dhyana) first came in contact with Nia I was deeply impressed. I was already an instructor of aerobics, yoga and meditation, as well as an energy worker, and had created the first Holistic Fitness classes in Vancouver. However Niaʻs elegant fusion of various east-west modalities seduced me and I immediately attended the extensive week-long training in Portland, designed to take teachers deeply into themselves on every level. Since then I have completed several intensives and am a certified black belt Nia instructor. Nia has become a way of life, a way to continually grow strong and flexible, youthful, balanced between sensual and powerful, to "dance through life" into the freedom of being my self. I offer classes in two locations:

  • Gibsons, BC, Canada; April to December, 10am Sat. & Tues.,

in the dance studio at The Kinsmen Hall, 516 Gower Pt. Rd.

  • La Manzanilla, Mexico; Jan. to March, 9:30am Sat. & Tues.,

at Casa Luz palapa studio, 95 Boca del Rio.
