tone your body, free your mind, and ignite your creative power!
Nia is an exhilarating movement practice that combines dance, martial arts and healing arts. Some have called it the exciting, aerobic "cousin of yoga" due to the combination of movement awareness and fitness that it creates.
Nia classes are a tantalizing blend of form combined with the freedom of conscious dance. Your body develops new fitness circuitry, energy and physical balance, while you experience emotional release and a mental reset button into clarity and Joy.
Dancing between the physical world and the world of energy, Nia is more than just a workout. Nia addresses each aspect of your life - body, mind and soul - using a wide variety of music to inspire you. Nia tones your body while transforming the emotional and mental blocks that have become a part of your cellular memory.
A fun, creative path to well-being, Nia's world-wide classes are taught at 3 levels of intensity. Individual fitness levels are cultivated by choosing pleasure over pain and by listening to sensation as the way to connect with fitness, mindfulness, and inner self.
When I (Dhyana) came in contact with the elegant fusion of various east west fitness modalities in Nia I was deeply impressed. I had created and was leading the first Holistic Fitness classes in Vancouver, combining aerobics, yoga and meditation. However I immediately attended the extensive week-long Nia white belt training in Portland that took us deeply into ourselves on every level. Since then I have completed several intensives and am a certified black belt instructor. Nia has become a way of life, a way to "dance through life" into the freedom of being my self. I offer classes:
- in Gibsons, BC, Canada, from April to December, 10am Sat. & Tues. at DanceWorks Studio, 923 Gibsons Way
- in La Manzanilla, Mexico, from January to March at Casa Luz, 9:15am Sat. & Tues.
